I was the head limo chauffeur at the Casino/Hotel in AC from 80-82. I got to drive Hef, Christie, Victor Lownes and a myriad of celebrities! I'm on pp. 157 of the OCT 1981 issue of Playboy. Let me know who you are and if you remember those good old days! Robert

Hi Robert
Welcome to the site! It is always nice to hear from someone, from the Atlantic City Casino.
I used to do a lot of the "junkets", where we would be driven, by limo, to the Atlantic City Airport to meet the incoming arrivals to our Casino. Maybe you were one of the drivers who took us there.
I'll have to dig out my copy of the 1981 magazine to see your picture. I am in that issue as well, serving cocktails on the Casino floor.
They certainly were the good old days. We had so much fun! I couldn't believe I was getting paid to do it. I used to forget to pick up my paychecks, because they were so measly. The tips were great though!
It is sad, however, that they have razed the building and now it is an empty lot. So many memories were within those walls.
If you need any help, Alan our webmaster, is great and he will help you with, or direct you to, whatever you may need.
Take care and Happy Holidays!
Love,

Thanks Sandy! Hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas and New Years too! I picked up Hef at the airport with some bunnies but most of my runs were with High Rollers and of course Victor, Christie, Hef and the movie stars! I drove Bill Cosby, Gabe Kaplan, Andy Kaufmann, Ron Ely, Dick Van Patten and several others. I preferred driving the high-rollers since they tipped well. Rod Lasher and Abe Abudallah were two of my regulars. Stay in touch! Peace, Robert

Hi Robert
What a cool job you had!
I remember when all of those celebrities were there. And the Soap Opera Actors! There were tons of them. And I remember the Smothers Brothers and John Glenn. Ron Ely was Tarzan.....and that was the first year he was emceeing the Miss America Pagaent.
Remember Andy Kaufmann used to start fights with the Bunnies.....REAL fights? He was a little off.......it was his act I know, but he carried it a little far.
And Abe Abudullah! He used to tip me $100, for every drink he ordered. Now mind you, he usually only had one....LOL...but sometimes he had two! He was banned a lot, from the tables and I recall him walking through the crowded casino floor, calling my name, when he saw me. He wanted a drink, was all. He looked out of place, when he was not at the gaming tables. He was always very nice to me.
Thanks for bringing back a fond memory.
Love,

Abe and Rod Lasher would fight over who would get what suite and even pulled guns on each other by the pool on the 21st floor once. I had the BIGGEST crush on DANA the 21st floor hostess! Abe would never tip me when I drove him from Bader field to the hotel but would hand me a hundred and ask I run his Rolls Royce that he kept in the garage through a car wash and I got to keep the change. I worked as a concierge at the front desk when I was not driving and he would always shake my hand with a hundred in it when he saw me there too! Rod Lasher (silent partner and the money behind Bill Blass and Godiva) once gave me a Rolex watch as a tip! He would always give me the liquor and fruit, etc. the hotel provided in his suite too! Once he gave me two tickets to see Frank Sinatra at Resorts and the date I took was so impressed! We had a bottle of Dom and a nice pate with crackers laid out for us in our center stage booth. Talk about memories! He also gave me his comps to see Cher at Resorts and she put on the BEST concert I ever saw! Those indeed were the days! Have fun! BB

Wow Robert. All that drama, with the guns.........feisty guys, they were, huh?
I remember a Dana. Is she in my photo album? I know there is a Dana in there somewhere.
Do you remember Buddy Rogers? He worked in some capacity, for Playboy. I often saw him on the casino floor. He was a retired wrestler and his wife was named "Nature Girl". When I was 10 years old, he owned a lounge, in the town where I lived. I was fascinated by this big, strapping, good looking blonde guy and his beautiful wife (dressed in a leopard skin get up.) When I saw him at Playboy, I told him the story of a young girl, admiring him, all those years ago. I do believe he blushed. A nice memory for me, because shortly after that, he passed away.
He was always a gentleman and I will always remember his "bigger than life" persona. What a guy!
Love,

| Just checked all the photos and alas, no Dana...)o: I knew Buddy Rogers well. He was the casino host to several of my fares. He sent to me NYC in a blizzard at night once and I wiped out the LIMO with two passengers on black ice. The only damage was everything inside made of glass smashed to pieces and I got a bad cut on my wrist cleaning it out. I never got in trouble since it was not reported but that trip took over 24 hours! The headlights were blinking after the four 360's we did so I had to pull over and wait until morning to begin the drive again. Stay in touch sweetie! BB |
